What are microadventures?
According to Alastair Humphreys, microadventures are “small and achievable, for normal people with real lives”. However, he defines a microadventure as an overnight outdoor adventure, which I don’t necessarily agree with.
In my own definition of the term, microadventures are short, local trips that add value to your life. Perhaps you need a break from routine? Or you’re simply feeling a bit restless?
Microadventures can come in all shapes and sizes. Put simply, you can catch a train to somewhere you’ve never been before to explore the shops and cafes or you can be a bit more extreme and venture out to a National Park to abseil and canyon for the weekend.
A microadventure is medicine for the soul and in small doses, they keep the spirit of adventure alive within you to keep you young and most importantly, happy.
